The Crow Hill Co. Offers Pocket Strings Free via Newsletter Subscription

The Crow Hill Co. is offering Pocket Strings, a broadcast-quality string instrument plugin, as a free download for a limited time. To access it, users must subscribe to the CHC newsletter. Compatible with PC and Mac (VST2, VST3, AU, AAX), this plugin is designed to bring high-end string sounds to every kind of music creator.

Pocket Strings was developed with a clear mission: to make world-class string sounds available to all, regardless of background, gear, or budget. The CHC team recorded some of the UK’s top classical musicians and traveled to Pisa, Italy, to acquire rare analog string synths, including the Yamaha CS-80 and ARP Solina Ensemble, all in pursuit of crafting an inspiring and accessible tool.

    Broadcast-Grade Sound, Pocket-Sized Convenience

Intended as a portable creative tool, Pocket Strings allows producers and composers to write orchestral music on the go. Whether in a studio or collaborating remotely, users can access richly expressive string textures with no setup complexity or additional purchases. It’s designed to handle everything from rough demos to finished productions.

The instrument blends a classical string section (with three articulations) and a separate controllable double bass layer with vintage synth textures. These layers can be shaped further using the built-in Glass EQ, algorithmic and granular reverbs, and intuitive modulation tools.

Designed for Musicians of All Levels

CHC hopes the plugin will inspire collaboration and help lower the barrier to creating orchestral music. Its compact size—reduced from over 130 GB of recorded content to just 850 MB—makes it easy to share projects and work across platforms without technical friction.

    Features

    • 3 string techniques performed by a classical section
    • Independent control over double bass
    • Synth layers from vintage Yamaha CS-80 & ARP Solina
    • Glass EQ for shaping fundamental frequencies
    • Algorithmic and granular reverbs
    • Built-in modulation controls for expression
    • Over 130 GB of content compressed into 850 MB
    • VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX formats for PC and Mac

    Free Download

Impact Soundworks Releases Free Orchestral Hit System: HIT for Kontakt Player

Impact Soundworks have dropped something fun, unexpected, and surprisingly useful: Orchestral Hit System: High Intensity Transients (OHS: HIT). It started life as an April Fools’ joke, but it’s 100% real and totally free. Best of all? It works with the free Kontakt Player.

    Big, Bold, and Hilariously Effective

This isn’t your typical orchestral library. OHS: HIT takes the idea of the classic orchestral hit and runs with it—fast. Each section of the orchestra is condensed down to a single, dramatic articulation: THE HIT. No complex keyswitches or expression maps—just instant impact, perfect for cinematic accents, dramatic stingers, or tongue-in-cheek nods to the 90s.

    What’s Inside?

    • Eight tutti sections: Strings, Brass, Winds, Timpani, Bass Drum, Cymbals, Synths, and Piano
    • Two dynamic layers: Forte and Fortissimo—because who has time for subtlety?
    • Multiple octaves where possible
    • “Stretch Last Note” mode to relive those glorious pitch-stretched ROMpler days

    So, What’s the Point?

Honestly, it’s part joke, part nostalgia trip, and part genuinely useful tool. Whether you’re working on an epic trailer, scoring a video game, making retro hip-hop, or just want to add a bold splash of drama, this thing delivers. It’s tongue-in-cheek, but it’s also sampled and scripted with the same care as any other Impact Soundworks release.

OHS: HIT is the kind of instrument that makes you laugh when you load it—but then you end up actually using it. Go ahead and grab it. It’s free, it’s fun, and it hits hard. Did I mention it works within the free Kontakt Player?
