Analog Obsession has released MidBoss, a free mid-frequency saturation and tone shaper plugin. While donations are welcome to support the developer, the plugin is fully functional and available for all major formats.

    Focused Midrange Saturation

MidBoss is designed to target the mid frequencies of your signal, but each of its six saturation types shapes the high and low ends differently. Whether you’re aiming for extra bite, warmth, or color, MidBoss provides quick results with minimal fuss.

The plugin includes a Drive control for adjusting saturation intensity, a Mix knob for parallel processing, and a clean Output gain that can be finely tuned with a screw-style control. It’s simple, effective, and ready to drop into any production chain.

    Features

    • 6 saturation types for different tonal results
    • DRIVE knob for shaping and saturating the signal
    • MIX control for blending wet and dry signal
    • OUTPUT gain with screw-style fine adjustment
    • BYPASS switch for quick A/B comparisons

  • Quietformat Releases Transient Control Free Transient Shaper Plugin

Quietformat Releases Transient Control Free Transient Shaper Plugin

Quietformat has released Transient Control, a free minimalist transient shaper plugin available now as a free download for Windows and macOS. With a single main knob at its core, this tool lets you reshape the attack and sustain of your audio in seconds.

    Simple Control, Surprisingly Deep

Transient Control is built for speed. You turn the main knob left to boost punch and trim tails, or right to smooth attacks and stretch out the sustain. Sensitivity and Smooth controls let you fine-tune the plugin’s response, making it easy to adapt to different types of audio.

There’s also a Drive control for adding subtle saturation, great for giving a sound more presence in the mix without extra processing. One interesting trick: set the main knob to -100 and max out Sensitivity and Smooth to get a soft-yet-tight effect where the transients feel velvety, but the sound still holds its shape.

    Features

    • Free transient shaper for Windows and macOS
    • One main control to shift focus between attack and sustain
    • Sensitivity and Smooth controls to shape the response
    • Drive knob for saturation and density
    • AU and VST3 plugin formats supported

    Free Download

Transient Control transient shaper plugin is available for free download at Quietformat’s website.

  • Parallax Audio Offers Virtual Sound Stage 2 as a Free Download

Parallax Audio Offers Virtual Sound Stage 2 as a Free Download

Parallax Audio is giving away Virtual Sound Stage 2, their spatial positioning plugin originally launched in 2014, as a completely free legacy version. If you work with virtual instruments and want a more realistic sense of depth and placement in your mixes, this is a great opportunity to grab a still-relevant tool for nothing.

A Spatial Mixer for Virtual Instruments

Virtual Sound Stage recreates the subtle differences in sound you’d hear at different positions in a real acoustic space, something most traditional reverbs ignore. Instead of faking depth with just pre-delay and reverb tails, it gives each instrument its own spatial footprint by combining modeled room reflections, mic setups, and stereo image shaping.

You can manage all plugin instances from a single control window, making it easy to place multiple instruments across the stereo field in realistic concert halls, scoring stages, studios, and cathedrals. With customizable mic positions and detailed room modeling, the plugin helps samples sit naturally together in a shared space.

    Features

    • Position instruments within realistic acoustic environments
    • Classic halls, studios, scoring stages, and cathedrals
    • Multiple microphone setup options with flexible positioning
    • Single interface controls all plugin instances
    • Compatible with modern OS and plugin formats
    • Updated for Apple Silicon and VST3 support
    • Plugin formats: VST3, AU, AAX (Mac & Windows)

    System Requirements

    macOS

    • Intel CPU or Apple Silicon (M-Series)

  • QuietFormat Releases Two Free Modulation Plugins (macOS & Windows)

QuietFormat Releases Two Free Modulation Plugins (macOS & Windows)

QuietFormat has released two free modulation plugins: Auralis Chorus and Auralis Multi Mod. Both are lightweight, well-designed tools that cover classic modulation effects without getting in your way. If you’re looking for subtle movement or more expressive texture in your tracks, these are worth grabbing.

    Auralis Chorus

Auralis Chorus is a clean, straightforward chorus plugin with two modes that can be used individually or blended. Chorus 1 leans smooth and warm, giving you that familiar analog-style depth. Chorus 2 is brighter and more stereo-focused, great for opening up guitars, keys, or vocals.

You can use them on their own or together with a single switch that mixes them at a 50/50 balance. There’s also a simple dry/wet mix knob to control how much effect you’re adding. No menu diving, just a few intuitive controls and a resizable interface that plays nice in any DAW.

    Auralis Multi Mod

Auralis Multi Mod combines three familiar effects, Vibrato, Auto Pan, and Tremolo, into one plugin. Each section has its own depth and rate controls, and Tremolo can sync to your DAW tempo for rhythmic modulation. It’s designed to be simple but flexible, making it easy to add movement without reaching for separate plugins.

    • Vibrato: Pitch modulation for vintage wobble or subtle detuning
    • Auto Pan: Stereo motion with control over speed and intensity
    • Tremolo: Volume modulation with tempo sync for rhythmic chops

There’s no need to overthink things here; the layout is intuitive, and it loads quickly without taking up much screen space.

    Free Download

Both Auralis Chorus and Auralis Multi Mod are available as free downloads from the QuietFormat website.

Joonas Ylänne Releases Vinyl Scratcher LITE Free Plugin

Joonas Ylänne has released Vinyl Scratcher LITE, a free virtual instrument plugin for Decent Sampler that simulates vinyl scratching in a playable and expressive way. Believed to be the first free virtual instrument designed specifically for scratching, it offers musicians, beatmakers, and composers a unique tool that captures the character of turntable manipulation inside a DAW.

A New Concept For Scratch Sounds

Unlike audio manipulation tools or sample packs, Vinyl Scratcher LITE is a playable instrument. It loads inside the free Decent Sampler engine and provides mapped scratch phrases that can be triggered and shaped in real-time. This approach opens creative doors for users looking to add DJ-style textures to music, film scoring, and experimental projects.

    Features

    • Free virtual instrument designed for vinyl scratching
    • Built for Decent Sampler (free player required)
    • Includes mapped scratch samples for real-time triggering
    • Based on custom recordings by the developer
    • Lightweight and easy to integrate into any DAW
    • PRO version with expanded features is also available

    Comparison Between Lite and Pro

    Trailer/Sound examples

    The Story Behind The Instrument

The idea for Vinyl Scratcher started while Joonas was scoring music for his first full-length film, Vares X. Wanting to incorporate vinyl scratching into a scene, he realized there were no dedicated virtual instruments for the job. After recording scratch sounds himself and experimenting with them, the concept took shape. Although the track didn’t make the final cut, the instrument did, and now it’s freely available for anyone to use.

  • The Crow Hill Company Releases Rhythm Machine Free Drum Instrument Plugin

The Crow Hill Company Releases Rhythm Machine Free Drum Instrument Plugin

The Crow Hill Company has released Rhythm Machine, a free drum instrument plugin from the Vaults series, focused on the warm, punchy character of Roland’s CompuRhythm CR-78 while adding tasteful modern effects. It delivers the familiar groove of classic rhythm machines in a compact plugin designed for fast, reliable results.

    CR-78 Background

Introduced in 1978, Roland’s CR-78 shifted rhythm machines from preset-only boxes to programmable instruments. Beyond fixed patterns like bossa nova or waltz, producers could create and store their own grooves with the external WS-1 programmer, making the CR-78 a practical tool that adapted to the track instead of the other way around.

    Sound And Legacy

The CR-78’s 14 analog drum voices, kick, snare, hats, rimshot, tambourine, claves, and more – deliver a warm, immediate tone. Its slightly imperfect tempo behavior adds human feel, a quality heard on records by Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, and Blondie. That combination of character and programmability cemented its influence and continues to inspire modern production.

    Vaults Interpretation

For this Vault, the Crow Hill team set out to preserve the core CR-78 character while extending its range with tasteful processing. The result is an instrument that can sit subtly under guitars and keys or step forward with more pronounced, stylized patterns, without losing the recognizable CR-78 DNA.

    Features

    • Free Rhythm Machine instrument from the Vaults series
    • Inspired by the Roland CR-78 with 14 classic drum voices
    • Built-in effects for quick polish and mix placement
    • Light footprint for multiple instances across a session
    • Available for macOS and Windows in standard plugin formats

    Free Download

Rhythm Machine drum instrument plugin can be downloaded for free at The Crow Hill Company website.

  • Jhonatan López Releases NoiseRverb Free Convolution Reverb Plugin

Jhonatan López Releases NoiseRverb Free Convolution Reverb Plugin

Jhonatan López has released NoiseRverb, a free convolution reverb plugin built from impulse responses recorded in seven historic churches across Quito.

Presented at AES 2025 and developed in C++ with the JUCE framework, it focuses on translating real architectural acoustics into a compact, practical tool. This approach gives producers an easy way to place sources inside believable spaces without complex setup or heavy processing.

    What NoiseRverb Is

This free convolution reverb plugin centers on real spaces rather than synthesized rooms. Each impulse response was measured on location, preserving early reflections, diffusion, and decay as they occur in large stone interiors. The curated set of seven venues offers clear variation while maintaining a fast and consistent workflow for music production, post-production, and immersive projects.

    Features

  • Seven impulse responses captured in historic churches in Quito
  • Convolution engine developed with JUCE in C++
  • Natural early reflections and realistic long tails
  • Streamlined interface for quick auditioning and blend
  • Suitable for subtle ambience or dramatic space design
  • Formats: VST3 and AU on macOS, VST3 on Windows
  • Free for personal and commercial use

Workflow And Use Cases

Load a space, set the pre-delay and decay as needed, then balance the wet and dry signals to taste. Short blends add depth to vocals, guitars, and keys without masking detail, while longer settings create cinematic ambience for intros, breakdowns, and transitions. Because the impulse responses are measured on site, sources tend to sit naturally in the mix, making it a dependable choice when you need authentic room tone.

Compatibility And Performance

NoiseRverb runs as VST3 and AU on macOS and as VST3 on Windows, integrating smoothly with common DAWs. Session recall and preset handling behave as expected, and the streamlined design helps maintain modest CPU usage even when multiple instances are active in a project.

Why Choose A Free Convolution Reverb Plugin

A free convolution reverb plugin delivers authenticity and consistency by using measured spaces. When the goal is a believable room character with predictable results, convolution remains a strong option. NoiseRverb’s focused library of church acoustics provides a usable palette that speeds up decisions and complements algorithmic reverbs in everyday workflows.

NoiseRverb convolution reverb plugin can be downloaded for free at Jhonatan López’s website.
